CAPTAIN MATT COLEMAN
AVAILABLE FOR BOCA GRANDE & PLACIDA CHARTERS
Matt is one of the few guides that you will find that has been born and raised right here in Boca Grande. He works in Boca Grande year round guiding and commercial fishing full time. Fishing is not a part time job for Matt. It is his way of life.
Not only is he a native of the area, but behind him is a long history angling in these gulf waters. Matt's entire family extending to brother, uncle, and cousins are involved in the fishing business here in Boca Grande. You can rest assured that with all this experience and knowledge, Matt Coleman is the captain you need to guide you through these local waters to these legendary sport fish.
Matt fishes from Faithful II, a 1964 Knight Bros. cabin boat. Every piece of this 35 foot boat is constructed of wood. His father had the boat built by local boat builders of the Knight family. It was custom made for tarpon fishing in Boca Grande Pass. Specifically this means that the boat was designed to hold steady while facing the fast currents sweeping through the pass. This is also a fine offshore fishing rig. At one time, Matt's father used it to commercial fish offshore. The boat is equipped with a restroom, two bunks, a covered dinette, two bait wells, and two fighting chairs. It is powered by a 340 hp Peninsula diesel engine.
Matthew's other boat for backcountry fishing is 24 foot 1972 proline. The V-shaped bow makes it great for getting through choppy waters in the harbor and the beach. The flat bottom stern allows it to go into any shallow flats water. It's equipped with a 35 gallon bait/live well and is powered by a 2002 200 hp Mercury motor.
